Each of our toys has been bird tested ...... and flockmama approved!

All our birds are fed Roudybush pellets everyday.  They are also  fed fresh fruits & veggies, cornbread,  rice & bean mixtures and a high quality seed mix .

They drink from dishes or water bottles. They are on timed full spectrum lighting.

We do not breed our birds more than two clutches a year.  After the second clutch they are seperated into resting flights to vacation for the rest of the season!

Life is too short......Have you hugged your bird(s) today?

 Basic Bird Food Mixture

Basic mixture:

In food processor put 2 eggs (Shells and all), 1 tsp baking powder, 1 can Green Beans (Any kind will do), 1 Cuttlebone, 1 Tablespoon Necton Vitamins, 3 or 4  Large carrots and ¼ cup vegetable oil and grind all together.  If it is too soupy add a little uncooked oats.

Dump into bowl. To this mixture add 3 cups cockatiel seed.  Mix together and spread on greased cookie sheet, Bake at 375 degrees for approximately 30 minutes.

Cornbread:

Any Cornbread recipe will do

Mix equal parts

1. Basic mixture which has been crumpled up

2. Cornbread which has been crumbled up

3. Cooked rice you can use small noodles and even potato ( They love sweet potato)

4. Cooked beans (I usually use 1 package lentils and one package of small white beans

but you can use anything…barley, pinto beans, kidney beans, split peas)

5. Sunflower seed

6. and cockatiel seed…or pellets…or zupreem…or your favorite food brand.

This can then be frozen for later use.  It must be stored in the refrigerator as it can spoil.

I often add chopped fresh fruits and/or veggies to this right before I serve it to them. I mix everything together and then watch them forage out their favorites.

The advantages of getting your bird used to this diet is they will eat anything you put in front of them…The disadvantage is that it does spoil.

Popcorn Treat

When I want to give my birds a special treat I reach for popcorn.  Yup popcorn!  I get the old fashion popcorn in the plastic bags as it does not have the added sodium and fat that the microwaveable bags seem to have.

I simply place it in a microwaveable dish with a little oil and pop it up.  When it is done I dump it into a paper bag and sprinkle some powdered cheese and/or spices (oregano seems to be a favorite) into the bag and give it a good shake.  Sometimes I sprinkle vitamins in the bag as well.  I let it cool and then serve it up.

Let your imagination run wild......it is amazing what your birds like if you only offer it to them!

~Enjoy!
